Goodbye Amazing Prince

21 Apr

I was sitting in front of my computer at work when I saw the news flash on my cell phone.  A person was found unresponsive at Paisley Park.  Almost immediately, I got a sick feeling in my stomach that something bad had happened.  I kept hoping that it wasn’t true, but unfortunately, it was.  Prince was gone.  He was only 57 years old.

Shock came over me.  I couldn’t believe it.  I grew up listening to his music.  The Purple Rain movie and soundtrack were a huge part of my teenage years.  I loved his songs and what a genius he was with lyrics and instruments.  He was eccentric and it was awesome.

I was a huge fan of his songs going back to Controversy and I Wanna be Your Lover to his most recent music.  His concert I attended many years ago was incredible, even though he didn’t play many of his old tunes.  It didn’t matter, because I was a huge fan, and he was in the house.

We always think iconic people like Prince will live forever.  How quickly we are reminded that they are just like us and can’t escape death and taxes.  Rest in Peace, Prince.  I will watch Purple Rain tonight and have a toast to you and the influence you had on so many musicians and fans around the world, like me.
